When she graduated in 1992 Amanda Bossard began her research in marine biology at Anchorage from Alaska Pacific University. Bossard started her career as a commercial fish worker in 1999. She started working on the F/V Sunset an a65' halibut-schooner and was later converted into a Salmon tender, for Murat Aritan. She had been working in commercial fishing since 1993.
